Zumba!

Hi all,

Been awhile, huh? I've been busy creating more personalized cartoons for dancers and others as well as taking Zumba classes left, right and center - LOL! I have fallen in love with Zumba and am going for my Zumba 'certification' so I can teach. This is May 31st in Ottawa and it's an all-day session from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. - WOOOOHOOOOOO! Hubby will go to his usual hardware stores - it's a guy thing - LOL!

Anyway, that being said, I have to tell you why I took to Zumba.

I'm an ex-ballroom/Latin dance competitor, used to do shows for charity, then got divorced. Met new hubby, hooked him into taking dance lessons which he did really well at and loved. Used to practice a couple of times a week, and even took private lessons. Well, hubby developed arthritis in his fingers and has pain everytime he tries to turn me. I know we could keep on doing ballroom and not Latin but it's the Latin that I miss the most and I can't see myself dancing with a partner and doing just ballroom anyway and watching everyone else do both.

Then I heard about Zumba and went on their website. Hmmmmmmm...my kinda music! Latin beat, cool latin moves.... So I found a class or two or three and took them around where I live. WOW! Love it. So I decided on paying the $210 for the certification so I can teach.

We are moving (hopefully this year) to the country where they have a teeny community center. I talked to the mayor (mayor/dentist - told ya it's a small town - LOL!) and he told me if I didn't charge too much he'd let me have the hall at no charge so I can teach Zumba Fitness! I mentioned to him that I didn't want to make alot of money - I just want to bring an exciting fitness class to the town, help everyone get/stay in shape and also keep myself fit as well as dance my beloved Latin dances to all those exciting Latin tunes - plus it's fun to do choreography and practice - brings back happy memories!

If you haven't heard of Zumba, here's some background from their website:

"Zumba combines high energy and motivating music with unique moves and combinations that allow the Zumba participants to dance away their worries. It is based on the principle that a workout should be "FUN AND EASY TO DO" allowing Zumba participants to stick to the Zumba Fitness program and achieve long-term health benefits. Zumba is a "feel-happy" workout that is great for both the body and the mind. ZUMBA is a fusion of Latin and International music - dance themes that create a dynamic, exciting, effective fitness system! The routines feature aerobic/fitness interval training with a combination of fast and slow rhythms that tone and sculpt the body. Zumba utilizes the principles of fitness interval training and resistance training to maximize caloric output, fat burning and total body toning. It is a mixture of body sculpting movements with easy to follow dance steps."
